Privacy Policy
Hello, big scary internet. I’m Maze E., and this is the privacy policy for By Maze E. This page explains what information is collected when you visit, why it’s collected, and how it’s used.
If you have any questions, you can reach me through the contact form on the site.
Who we are
This website, By Maze E., is a personal author site and blog run by a single individual (hi, that’s me). The site address is: https://www.bymazee.com.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, I collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
If you prefer not to have this information shared, you can choose not to use Gravatar or not to leave a comment.
Contact forms
When you submit a message through the contact form, I receive the information you choose to provide (such as your name, email address, and the contents of your message). I use this information only to read your note and respond to you.
I do not sell or share this contact form information with third parties. Messages may be kept for record‑keeping and to help me respond to any follow‑up questions.
Media
If you upload images to the website (for example, through comments), you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on the site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit the login page, a temporary cookie may be set to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in (for example, as a registered user or site admin), several cookies are set to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after one day.
You can manage cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect some parts of the site.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (for example, videos, images, or articles). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you had visited the other website directly.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third‑party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website. I do not control how other sites handle your data, so please review their privacy policies if you choose to interact with embedded content.
Analytics
Like most websites, By Maze E. may use basic analytics tools to understand how visitors use the site—for example, which pages are visited and how often. This information is generally collected in an aggregated or anonymized form and is used to improve the content and reader experience.
I do not use analytics to personally identify individual visitors.
Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email as part of standard security.
In addition, visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service to keep the site usable and safe for everyone.
I do not sell your personal data.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This helps the site recognize and approve any follow‑up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on the website (if any), the personal information they provide in their user profile is stored as long as the account remains active. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
Contact form messages may be retained for a reasonable period for customer service, record‑keeping, and quality purposes.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data held about you, including any data you have provided.
You can also request that any personal data held about you be erased. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
To make a request, please contact me through the site’s contact form.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Embedded content and third‑party services (such as Gravatar or any embedded media platforms) may process your data according to their own privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes to the site or legal requirements. The “last updated” date will be adjusted when that happens.
